Nature Walk

The weather was finally nice enough today for us to get out of the house. Even though everything is super wet and soggy from DAYS of rain, we decided to take a nature walk in these woods that are right behind our house.
In some of the ponds that have been made by all the rain, we saw a ton of tadpoles. Trevor thought it was so cool because we had just read about tadpoles. He wants to go back when they are supposed to be frogs, so I told him I would figure out how long that would be so we can go see if we can find frogs. Being the Fernwood girl I am, I caught one so he could get an up close look at one. As soon as I put it back in the water, the big momma frog came up and poker her head out of the water at me...I am pretty sure she was swearing at me for touching her baby.

We also so ALOT of deer tracks, some were fairly big. We saw turkey tracks too, but I didn't take any pics of those.

Trevor wanted to go find the deer so he could wrestle it and bring it home to eat :) This is his tough guy look.

Then he said, "Hey mom, get a picture of me hitting daddy!" Okay, I am all for that ;)

We had to change our clothes as soon as we got home because there was a lot of poison ivy growing out there...and we found a tick on Steve's leg. I caught him in a paper towel and threw him outside, and immediately took a shower, but I am now all paranoid about there being one in my hair.

We had a really good time, and the hike back up through the woods was no walk in the park, even Steve was out of breath! I am just glad we finally got to go do something!

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a VERY Happy Easter! We had a good one! We started the day off with a couple gifts for Trevor, and that included Alphie. He has been asking for Alphie for what seems like forever! So I finally broke down and bought him.
Then we braved the soggy yard and the rain for an Easter Egg hunt in the yard. After that it was time for church. We came home and while I prepared stuff for dinner and dessert, Steve and Trevor spend hours in the basement playing video games. I got some good reading and girl movie time!
We haven't really done anything fun lately. It has been raining and stormy for the past week and it is supposed to stay that way until Thursday...ugh. Steve has a 4 day pass for next weekend so hopefully we can do something fun!

Our Windy Gardening Day

We decided to stay home today but had to get outside and enjoy the warmth. It was SOOO windy out though, we had gusts of almost 50 mph which made weeding quite interesting! Here is Trevor with this gardening gloves and tools, ready to go! Once I got everything pulled I figured it was time to give everything some water to see if we can get it all to perk up a little. Of course, Trevor volunteered to man the hose.

Here are some of the flowers on one of the bushes...I have no idea what they are.
Soon enough, watering the plants turned into watering himself...I don't blame him, it was hot out!
Another flower...Trevor insisted I take a picture of this one.
Of course we both had to change clothes after coming in because we were soaked! He ended up going back outside to blow bubbles on the back deck, then the boys played catch while I made dinner. I hope this nice weather sticks around!

Miller Cave

We finally had good weather, thank God! We have been itching to get out of the house and we decided to go find the cave that I had read about online. Here are Steve and Trevor at the entrance to the cave. Trevor thought this "window" was so awesome...the views were spectacular! The pond in a section that we had to crawl into...Trevor thought the log was an alligator. I hefted him up into this hole to take his picture, then told him we were going to move in and that could be his bed...he wasn't having that! Right after I got him out of the hole, a bat about 10 feet away started shrieking like crazy. I am not sure if he was mad that we were in there, or possibly because he was stuck behind the sign. Hiking back to the truck, almost to the top of the trail...it was a little scary below these stairs, super steep. I am glad that Trevor listens well enough or it could have turned out really bad.

It was a great day and I am sure we will go exploring again soon. Tomorrow Trevor is going to help me do a little gardening in the retaining wall planter...there is a lot of dead stuff that needs to be pulled so all the new growth can come in. I will be taking pics to share!
